March 2, 2013: San Francisco, California
When news of the Color Run made its way to San Francisco, Natalie and I decided that we would get a group together to go out and tackle this 5K (even though it is called a run, and is a 5K course, there is little to no running involved…) as it seemed like a fun and certainly memorable event. Who wouldn’t want to get “sprayed” with colored powder and liquid at a variety of stations? When all was said and done, we had 3 generations of the Miladinovich family (Edie, Mickey, Shelly, Hannah, Natalie, and Darin) up before dawn to make our way to Candlestick Park for a 9am start.
Though it was overcast and gray, the sun wasn’t far behind, and we all lined up (with several thousand other participants) to get our official Color Run t-shirts, bib numbers, and headbands. Thankfully, we were in an early wave of “runners” and we started just after 9am — folks in wave 18, 20, 22, etc. didn’t start until almost lunchtime! The 5K course made its way along the waterfront in the Candlestick parking lot, past the RV Park, and along the outer edge of the San Francisco 49ers Stadium lot. Along the way, there were “stations” that covered you from head to toe in a variety of colored powder and created massive plumes of color along the race route.
The Color Run was tons of fun and made for an amazing day with the family and another great addition to the mini-journey list in 2013…
